In 48 Hours

At last I learned preliminary toolsets I need in project management. After attending the 4 Fridays and 4 Saturdays project management training in UP Technology Management Center, I have obtained the skills, equipping myself to be a good project manager.

When I first attended this training, I did not mingle much with the group. The last day of the training was fun. I began to socialize and our class had great fun especially during the awarding of the diploma. As I mentioned before, the participants of the training came from the different industries. Because of this, I realized that the whole concept of project management encompasses different fields and flexible enough to cater all needs of a project manager even though it has tailored toolsets.

Now that I have the toolsets in my mind, will they be utilized in my work and personal life? Definitely yes! I will definitely use what I’ve learned from the training, not just in my professional endeavors but also in all of my personal projects. When I say personal, this includes my personal goals, by this year I will have this, by this year I must be like this and other stuffs that I have in my mind. In fact, I am already starting to create the log frames of these projects. I believe with this and discipline I can be able to achieve all I want both in my current work and in my personal life.

Anyway, here we are, the first project managers (based on this training) of UP Technology Management Center.

Punches

I have not written anything for days. My dad is here with me for a week and I have a lot of office and academic activities to finish. Yesterday, I was in SM Mall of Asia, a not appealing nor grand mall architecturally-wise in my opinion, with my dad and aunt. We had lunch in Almon Marina and walked around the crowded mall and had coffee in Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf before we went home. My dad urged me to take a bus heading home instead of having a cab, so we had a tour around the metro and at last I had already chartered some unknown places.

However, this interim roundabout in my usual routine, had not hindered me to embrace some poetic punches, from the training I was attending to the text messages I was receiving. In fact, I am little hesitant to write something until my dad is here with me, because I am experiencing some sort of dementia or terrible mental-block and it is due to the fact that I have to adjust a little with my ways. My dad is not really a watchdog or something like that but sometimes as a son, I have also to give some respect in how I live my life in front of my parent. They know about me being gay but they will definitely disapprove my carnal ways of life. Aside from this, I am not comfortable living my life with my parent beside me. Right now, I don't have much choice but I have to do a little segue from my usual routine.

Last Friday and Saturday, I started my Project Management seminar/training in Techonology Management Center of UP, and so far I am enjoying the new learning I have been receiving. It's quite technical but it is great to get some new views from different managers of different business atmosphere. In fact our classroom is very diversified. We have members from entertainment industry, from ADB, from construction firms, from realty companies, from IT companies and from call centers. For two days, our topical discussions, as group work, were interesting and mind-stimulating. I had fun discussing different corporate and business issues of a Project Manager and how to attack those issues drawing best-fit solutions. I will have this training every Friday and Saturday until the end of September. The training covers Nature and Context of Project Management, Project Selection, Project Leadership and Teamwork, Project Organization, Project Design and Logical Framework Development, Project Scheduling, Project Financial Analysis, Managing Project Risks, Project Issues, Project Quality Management, Project Monitoring and Evaluation, and Preparing Effective Project Plans. I believe when I finish this training, I will definitely emerge as a better project manager if not the best.

With the blitzkrieg of activities, from office issues, project issues, business development, family togetherness, personal issues, academic issues, training and even my reveries, I have been so indifferent with the cosmic alignment of my psyche. In fact, I did not pay attention to the messages of my life for two days. Now, while my dad is away to do some business somewhere, it's time for me to contemplate and give a deep thought on the messages I was receiving lately.

So far, I have these two messages that I think I received a great blow when I heard them.

1. "There is a thin line between stubbornness and perseverance." - from my lecturer
2. "Sometimes, you just have to try not to care no matter how much you do because sometimes you mean nothing to someone who means everything to you. It is not pride. It is called self-respect." - a text message from a friend who I have not talked to for years already.

Well, deep inside, I know these messages are trying to say something to me. I won't do a detailed exposition on these for only my soul knows their implications.

I have to cut this short. I need to do a powerpoint presentation for our Human Resource department.

Before ending this let me share the pasta I ate yesterday.
